Catawba County Museum Showcases Local History
Published Jul 03, 2008

An actual British Red Coat is on display at the Catawba County Museum of History.
The museum showcases the lives of Catawba Valley settlers who ultimately carved a furniture and textile empire out of the backwoods. The museum itself is in an interesting setting – the former Catawba County Courthouse that was built in 1924 in downtown Newton.
On display are old agricultural tools, wagon benches, beds, tables, cradles, plantation desks and numerous military uniforms. Two full-scale antebellum parlors have been reconstructed along with a 1920s medical office.
